Suggestions from those that have sat for the Basic and Instrument tests:

You will NOT be able to take a computer into the test UNLESS you can prove to the proctor that you can not connect to the internet. The proctor will need to get approval for this from Eastern Technical Associates and prove that they know enough about wireless connections and compuiters to be able to confirm you are not connected. You should make sure the proctor is OK with this before the test day.

Questions are not limited to what is in the methods. About 5 questions were on basic testing knowledge.

Don't limit your study to the list of methods given on the Eastern Technical Associates web page.

The format is 50 questions in 60 minutes and you need to get 40 or more correct to pass.

Some of the questions are tricky so if you are not sure of the answer check your best guess on the 1st reading.

Try to finish 1st read so you have at least 1 minute per best guess to look up answers.

Leave 1 minute at the end to guess at all the ones you haven't finished.

You may be able to bring in a crib sheet, so make a spreadsheet for each method in an Excel workbook.

Bring a CFR, pen, calculator, watch, notes and a brain.

For the most up-to-date US EPA documents it is STRONGLY recommended that you download the latest version directly from the USA EPA Emission Measurement Center . The EMC has a pdf version of every test method except 2f, 2g and 2h, which are only there in Wordperfect. However, we have made a HTML version of these below and plan to add links for easy reference.
