TransRiver Marketing Company, an American Ref-Fuel affiliate, maintains feedstock inventories for American Ref-Fuel's plants. TransRiver secures supplemental waste volumes to address seasonal fluctuations while helping commercial clients dispose of waste streams requiring special handling. due in part to Transriver's efforts, 90 percent of the waste needed to keep American Ref-Fuel's plants operating at capacity in 2003 was already under contract at the conclusion of 2002.

ARCNET is the unit of American Ref-Fuel responsible for marketing the byproducts of the combustion process. Through ARCNET, the company establishes markets for the sale of both ferrous and non-ferrous metals and promotes the beneficial use of ash from waste-to-energy facilities. An improving scrap steel market in 2002 enabled ARCNET to more than double metals revenue compared to the previous year.

American Ref-Fuel Special Waste Services Group grew this component of the company's business by 16 percent in 2002. Personnel in the group focus on the environmentally safe and efficient destruction of non-hazardous special waste streams processed at American Ref-Fuel facilities.

At Lynn Transfer Station, we increased permitted capacity from 340 to 740 tons per day. Contracts with the City of Boston and two independent waste hauling companies have secured commitments for more than 50 percent of the transfer station's available capacity.

ARC Waste LLC., American Ref-Fuel's waste hauling company located adjacent to our Delaware Valley (Chester), Pa., facility, completed its first full year of operation, securing several commercial waste contracts. ARC Waste delivered 40,000 tons of waste to the Delaware Valley plant and maintained a safety rate nearly five times better than the industry average for waste haulers.

We constantly evaluate and seek ways to improve the value obtained for waste capacity and energy and byproducts not currently under contract. At the same time, we continued to find synergies with out contract customers to recognize and address their emerging needs.
