Leadership Help

Some of you are already using 4D Corporate every day.  You can IGNORE this email.

However, a lot of you have never logged into 4D before.   This email tells you how.

INSTALLATION (if you have a recent copy of 4D already installed, you can skip to step 4):

1. Click this link to download the most recent client   (its 7Meg so don't do this on a phone line):

    • Windows users: http://www.cleanair.net/40/download/4D_Client_2004-1.exe
    • Mac users: http://www.cleanair.net/40/download/macintosh-downloads/4D_Client.hqx

Download and save it to your desktop.

2. Once its saved to your desktop, double click it -- it will extract/expand and create a folder called "4D Client 2004 "

(yes, I know your existing 4D program is called the exact same thing, but we used the same name so your existing shortcuts would work)

3. Double click or explore "My computer" and go to "C:\Program Files" --- copy (or drag&drop)
the "4D Client 2004" folder from your desktop to the Program Files folder. If you already have 4D
installed, you will (probably) see an alert come up "Confirm Folder Replace"... Click "Yes to

LOGGING IN (you need to be on the network or on the internet):

4. The first screen you'll see is the "Connection to 4D Server"  -- Click the "Custom" tab and enter in the following data:
Database Name: Corporate Network Address:

db1.cleanair.com,1025    (that's a number ONE after the db, and there is no space between the comma and the 1025).

It should look like this:

4D-TCP-IP

5. Then you'll see the "user name & password" box -- log in with your normal user name (first initial last name) and password.

That's it!   The next time you open 4D, the recent tab will appear first and will have all the information entered into it already.

If you've never installed 4D before (it you don't get the "confirm folder replace" message in step 3) then you'll want to first complete the steps 1-3 and then continue on with the following:

4. Open the C:\Program Files\4D 2004 Client folder and right click on "4DClient.exe" and "Create
Shortcut". Drag the shortcut that appears to your desktop.

5. Double Click the shortcut on your desktop and 4D will start. Click the "Custom" tab.

6. For database name, type "Corporate" and for Network address, type "db1.cleanair.com,1025" (no
quotes, no spaces after the comma) and click "OK" you should be prompted for your user name and
password.

NOTE 1: You don't have to do this, but if you want, you can move or copy the entire 4D folder on your desktop and put it into your Program Files folder on your C: drive (make sure you quit 4D first).  You can then make a shortcut to it on your desktop.

NOTE 2: Dave Nasralla will be doing some updates over the next few weeks -- some of the views and tables may change, though it shouldn't be too significant.

NOTE 3: Rentals has an entirely different 4D database and this procedure is not intended for the Rental database.

NOTE 4: Project Managers, Sales, Support, Team Leaders, Testers, etc...  all have different levels of access.  Please fill me in if you feel you need a different level of access.

Call/email the CleanAir IT staff with any questions or if you run into any problems...
