Chromeleon Installation Documentation
Very Rough Draft – January 31, 2008 – Various authors (J. Burden, D. Nunez, E. Campbell)
??? in the text denotes confusion
The instructions for Chromeleon 6.6 vs 6.8 may differ significantly… 6.8 may be easier.
It’s not clear from these instructions why it’s easier to copy
over pre-existing installation files. Maybe if you have
existing data you need & the original computer bombs out???
- Start with fresh install of XP Pro. NOTE: you CAN’T change
the name AFTER you install Chromeleon. Avoid joining domain unless
necessary. If you’re going from one computer to another, it makes
life easier to have the same computer name.
- Copy c:\chromel\bin\cmserver.cfg from an existing install to the
new computer – so you’ll have a c:\chromel\bin\cmserver.cfg file on the
new computer. Don’t copy any other files inside the bin folder.
- Copy c:\chromel\data\ from an existing computer to the new
computer. Note: “data” looks like a single file called a database
container on the original computer but once you move it over to the new
computer, “data” looks like a folder with a lot of files
inside. This is normal – once Chromeleon is installed on
the new computer, this “data” folder will turn into a single database
container.
- Install Chromeleon, get the install keys off of the documentation
sheet, and match it up with the number on the USB Key. Don’t plug
it in yet. Reboot.
- Install the Service Pack Disk (originally on a DVD but can be burned to a 700Meg CD). Reboot.
Ignore possible warning about Internet Explorer 7 updates (assuming you have updated your computer recently)
Ignore this warning if it appears: “All files installed … are correct. However… there are warnings…”.
- Connect the USB Key and turn on the ion Chromatography machine.
- “Found New Hardware” – accept all defaults for automatic hardware driver installation.
- The following may appear: “Chromeleon USB Auto Config Wizard:
create new time base or add device to existing?” Choose “Create a
new timebase” and accept defaults. You’ll see another window that
lists the ICS-90 with a serial number as an “Unassigned USB
Device”. Again, just accept the defaults.
- ??? You’re prompted to install the software for the WIBU Box, accept defaults.
- Start Chromeleon. …enter the license code in File: Preferences: License tab.
You may need to import the data manually (if you have a different computer name???)
- On the menu go to File/Mount Data Source
- It prompts “Should this data source be made accessible for Chromeleon Server?”
- Answer “yes”
- Rename the data source
- open new data source on c: drive
- Now both the newly installed data source and our good data(from c:) will appear in the Database window
- Drag the data folders from the old data source into the new data source under c:\chromel\data
- Dismount old data source
- Open reports to make sure the data has imported properly and test it.

In a different installation attempt, Daniel Nunez got the
following response from tech support (I believe you'd only do this if
the above installation directions fail):
Here is what you need to do:
Start->Run->regedit
Search for & Delete Dionex folder in registry.
Reinstall Chromeleon.
