Email

Also, please see the GMail FAQ for more information

Vacation Responder: Log into the web interface of email, click "Settings" and you'll see it half-way down the page.

...and here are a bunch of new resources available to us through Google
https://docs.cleanair.com/ for Google Docs (and Field Schedule)
https://calendar.cleanair.com for your personal calendar (that you can share with your co-workers)
https://wiki.cleanair.com This is a new system that is a lot easier to use than the older wiki - an effort is being made to transfer all the old wiki stuff.

Cell Phone v Google Email

It's a big subject --  please go here & 1. read & 2. Add your comments about how to set it up on your phone.

File Server Login (K: drive)

  • Download CleanAir-FileServer.exe program to desktop and run it.
  • Enter your user name and password & click "Login".
  • NOTE: if it says "check user name or password" you might need to click "Login" again. (it's an obscure issue with our firewall).
  • Now the file server will show up under "My Computer" as the K: drive. This includes Drop Folders, Projects, Proposals, etc.

Printers, Copiers, Scanners

Directions on how to add an IP (networked) printer/copier to your PC are attached (as a PDF) to this page (scroll to the bottom of the page & you'll see the link....

4D Corporate & 4D ESS (Rentals)

  • Download the Corporate or Rentals 4D Client to your desktop.
  • Expand it (Right Click & "Expand").
  • Move this expanded folder into your Program Files folder (C:\Program Files).
  • The program is now ready to run, but you'll most likely want to make a shortcut on your desktop for it. Look in C:\\Program Files\4D Corporate Client (or ESS Client) and right click on the Corporate Client.exe (or ESS Client.exe) and choose "Create Shortcut". You can then drag or copy this shortcut to your desktop.
  • The first time you run it, you may need to enter a custom connection (go to the "Custom" tab that appears when you run it).
  • Fill in the following information:
  • DB Name =Corporate, Net Address=db1.cleanair.com:1025
  • DB Name =Rentals, Net Address=db1.cleanair.com:2500
  • Then enter your user name and password. In the future, you'll see Corporate or Rentals listed in the "Recent" tab when you start 4D so you won't need to re-enter the name and address.
Citrix (Regular Outer Office 4D users should contact the IT dept for 4D via Citrix connections as it offers significantly faster 4D access)

The IT Department needs your help!

Are you computer inclined and detail oriented?  Do you double check your work?  Do you have a free moment?  Then take a look at this laundry list of things that just aren't getting done...

Google Odds & Ends...

  • You can use Google as a calculator by typing calculations into the search box. For Example, 5+2*2+8.1^3.
  • You can use Google for Unit Conversion. Example: 1000 BTU in kilocalories.
  • You can use Google for Currency Conversion. Example: 5 British pounds in South Korean money.
  • Google Toolbar is a great popup blocker & adds some very useful search functions to IE & Firefox
  • Google Desktop is a resource HOG & I'm only recommending it as being safer than various weatherbug/exact-time/webscreensavers. Like weatherbug et al, it will still slow your computer down, but at least it doesn't have spyware.
  • You can call 800-GOOG-411 (800-466-4411) and, through voice recognition, ask Google for things like weather, directions, etc.
  • You can text message GOOGL (46645) (try it out here) from your cell phone to get weather, the local pizza restaurant address, driving directions, etc.

 TIPS

When you press the "Print Screen" key on your keyboard you have just copied a picture of your entire screen and you can "Edit: Paste" this into a MS Word document or a Graphic document (like Paint or Canvas). ...If you hold down the "Alt" key and hit the "Print Screen" key, you copy a picture of the active(front) window instead of the entire computer screen.

Import Drawings into Word:
Avoid pixelated blocky drawings in Word documents by saving a Canvas drawing as a JPG, setting the resolution to 300 dpi and enabling anti-aliasing.
