More Google Services

This is a new system that is a lot easier to use than the older wiki -
an effort is being made to transfer all the old wiki stuff.
Cell Phones v Google Email
Google Odds & Ends
-
You can use Google as a calculator by typing calculations into the search box. For Example, 5+2*2+8.1^3. -
-
-
Google Toolbar is a great popup blocker & adds some very useful search functions to IE & Firefox -
Google
Desktop is a resource HOG & I'm only recommending it as being safer
than various weatherbug/exact-time/webscreensavers. Like weatherbug et
al, it will still slow your computer down, but at least it doesn't have
spyware. -
You can call 800-GOOG-411 (800-466-4411) and, through voice recognition, ask Google for things like weather, directions, etc. -
File Server (K: drive) Login
- Download CleanAir-FileServer.exe program to desktop and run it.
- Enter your user name and password & click "Login".
- NOTE:
if it says "check user name or password" you might need to click
"Login" again. (it's an obscure issue with our firewall).
- Now the file server will show up under "My Computer" as the K: drive. This includes Drop Folders, Projects, Proposals, etc.
Printers, Copiers, Scanners
Directions
on how to add an IP (networked) printer/copier to your PC are
attached (as a PDF) to this page (scroll to the bottom of the page

Internet Status (worldwide averages)
General
internet traffic and problems (green is good, yellow is sluggish, red
is a real problem). More detailed information is available
here: US, Europe.
So you want a new computer or cell phone!
All
requests need to be approved by your business
leader. IT orders it from Dell to our specifications
(though feel free to request certain options & we'll do our best to
oblige). Turn around time is typically two weeks once an order is
placed -- but we often try to order several identical computers at once
for a price break so this can add some delay. If it's an
"I'm going into the field tomorrow" type of emergency, fill
me in & we'll manage to get something worked out. Cell
Phones: also need to be approved by your business leader. Actual
purchasing can typically be done at your local cell phone dealer by you
(send me an email before hand & I can email you a letter that
*should* pre-approve your purchase... it does help to make sure
I'm in the office when you go over to make a purchase though as
sometimes (seems to depend on what your salesman feels like) I'll need
to fax something over.
Flowcharts
In addition to Visio or SmartDraw or Canvas (or even Excel) there is also a pretty cool online solution called "Gliffy" over at https://www.gliffy.com/.
If you need to make a flow chart or building diagram occasionally,
please sign up for the FREE trial and give me some feedback. It's very
inexpensive to get a company license but I'd like to know it will be
used by people before I add another system to my list of things to keep
track of... https://www.flowchart.com/ is a competing site and is completely free as of June 2008 while it is still in beta but it seems to be lacking some features.
Replacing WebEx
Adobe Connect (WebEx clone) pass: clean800 - It's easy to use and remarkably cheap ($400/year unlimited use)
- If multiple users log in as the host, they can all control the meeting
- You can share your desktop or other apps in addition to a slideshow
- It's limited to 5 connections at once
- It's mean primarily for internal use
- Mac & Windows compatible (though Mac users seem to get disconnected more often)
CleanAir Google Docs (online PowerPoint) - Creating a slideshow is intuitive
- You can import PowerPoint (check to make sure it converts OK before showing it)
- Add a CleanAir user as a collaborator and they can co-host (control) the slideshow
- "Start Presentation" and away you go
- You can also email invites from Google Docs
- You can schedule this meeting on your calendar and have it show up on the guests' calendar as well
- You have the ability to use "presenter notes" on a second screen.
- Mac & Windows compatible
REMOTE LINK (conference calling) Host Entry (what you do to start the conference) Host calls assigned dial-in number 800-240-8606 Enter HOST Conference Room number (331373) Record name followed by pound (#) key Once the host arrives the call will automatically begin Guest Entry (what everyone else does to log in) Each guest calls assigned dial-in number 800-240-8606 Enter GUEST Conference Room Number (8700) Record name followed by pound (#) key If
guests arrive before the host, they will be placed in a waiting room
with music on hold until the host arrives. All guests who arrive after
the host will automatically join the call. This is a general use room so there is a risk other people might be using it so for sales calls or other client related calls: Call/email Eric Campbell or Barb Jensen to get your very own room.
4D Corporate & 4D ESS (Rentals)
- Download the Corporate or Rentals 4D Client to your desktop.
- Expand it (Right Click & "Expand").
- Move this expanded folder into your Program Files folder (C:\Program Files).
- The
program is now ready to run, but you'll most likely want to make a
shortcut on your desktop for it. Look in C:\\Program Files\4D Corporate
Client (or ESS Client) and right click on the Corporate Client.exe (or
ESS Client.exe) and choose "Create Shortcut". You can then drag or copy
this shortcut to your desktop.
- The first time you run it, you may need to enter a custom connection (go to the "Custom" tab that appears when you run it).
- Fill in the following information:
- DB Name =Corporate, Net Address=db1.cleanair.com:1025
- DB Name =Rentals, Net Address=db1.cleanair.com:2500
- Then
enter your user name and password. In the future, you'll see Corporate
or Rentals listed in the "Recent" tab when you start 4D so you won't
need to re-enter the name and address.
- Citrix (Regular Outer
Office 4D users should contact the IT dept for 4D via Citrix
connections as it offers significantly faster 4D access)
The IT Department needs your help!
